Tax Support Role Description

Posted Wednesday, October 2, 2024

Thank you for your interest in WCG CPAs & Advisors. The following is high-level information for our Tax Support role on the Tax team.

Tax Support is our largest team segment besides Tax Prep, and does the heavy lifting on both ends of the tax return process, from front-end data collection to back-end binder assembly.

Tax Support hires in both the U.S. and India, at both seasonal and full-time permanent levels. The specifics of each pathway are covered further down this page.

Who Is WCG

WCG CPAs & Advisors isn't your typical CPA firm, and if you've spent any time in public accounting, you already know that's either a red flag or a relief. For the right person, it's the latter.

Headquartered in Colorado Springs with team members across the U.S. and in India, we're a methodically growing firm with 7 partners, over 90 full-time team members, and projected 2026 revenues of $12.7M, representing about 14% year-over-year growth. We grow because our model works, not because we say yes to everything.

We offer the depth of a mid-size firm with the focus and personality of a boutique. We play in specific sandboxes- small business owners in S Corps, Partnerships, and PCs; complex individual tax, and real estate investors, and we play in them very well. Real estate and rental activity planning alone represents over 40% of our advisory work and is our fastest-growing segment.

No billable hours. No six-minute increments. No stuffiness. We operate on a value-based, next-gen advisory model built around annual service offerings that combine tax return preparation, routine consultation, and strategic planning. A tax return, in our world, is the result of a year's worth of conversations, not a transaction.

If that sounds like the environment you've been looking for, keep reading.

WCG Team Overviews

Our India team is not an outsourcing arrangement, and it is not a back office. They are WCG Associates who happen to work from our office in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Same systems, same clients, same standards, same expectations. Oh, and same cool people.

You will find our India Associates embedded across the teams above, mainly Tax Prep, Tax Support, and Accounting Services. They use the same tools as their U.S. counterparts (UltraTax, SurePrep, QuickBooks Online, Xero), correspond with U.S. clients directly, advance along the same career paths, and take part in the same Associate Reviews. Because the work is genuinely shared, an India Associate is part of the client conversation, not a step removed from it.

The team works mostly onsite and is led on the ground by our WCG India Global Services Director. One firm, two countries, one heartbeat.

As of June 30, 2026, we have 15 full-time WCG India Associates.

If you are applying from India, the India Team Differences section of each role spells out what is specific to the Ahmedabad office: onsite work, compensation in INR, core hours in IST, the Saturday schedule during peak season, and the credentials we accept.

Everything starts and ends with our Support Team, and we mean that. Their mission is to make clients' lives better and to back up every other team at WCG. The Support Team runs in four lanes:

  • Client Support: Our frontline team handling phone calls, chats, texts, and general email inquiries. First impressions live here. The rest of the WCG team spends every day trying to live up to it.
  • Tax Support: Our largest segment and does the heavy lifting on both ends of the tax return process. They handle front-end data collection (IDP, which stands for Information and Data Processing... yeah, the name is a little stale, but the function is mission-critical) and back-end assembly using SurePrep. They also collect payments, obtain e-file authorizations via Canopy, and file about 75% of our tax return extensions.
  • Human Resources: Led by our dedicated HR Manager who ensures compliance, sure, but whose primary function is supporting the team with their needs from travel and IT to family leave, the firmwide calendar, and beyond.

Operations is a small team with firmwide reach, and it exists to keep the whole machine honest. It is not a back office, and it is not a report factory. Operations owns the health of production across every team, tax returns, tax plans, and financial statement delivery alike.

It is led by our Operations Manager, who reports to the Firm Strategist, with an Operations Specialist handling the heavy data build underneath. The Manager is the one who takes workflow and operational data, reads what it means, and turns it into a decision, a clear ask, and follow-through until the work moves.

In practice that looks like keeping work correctly staged, assigned, and current in Canopy, aligning Pods to one WCG standard as we grow, forecasting revenue and translating it into hiring needs so we staff ahead of the crisis instead of during it, leading engagement reassignment when people shift roles or Pods, and owning firmwide procedure alignment and the training that supports it.

Someone has to keep the trains running on time and spot the pileup before it happens. That is Operations.

We use Thomson Reuters UltraTax in a dedicated hosted environment, paired with SurePrep (including 1040SCAN) for electronic binders and annotations.

For the 2025 tax year, our team will prepare approximately 6,100 tax returns, a clean 60/40 split between individual and business entity returns. Because our Tax team has a well-documented fondness for summers, we push hard to complete 65% of returns by April 15, leaving May through July open primarily for tax planning work.

For the 2026 tax year, we expect to prepare 7,500 tax returns with the split increasing on the 1040 side given our increasing presence with real estate investors and rental property owners.

Over 50 Tax team members make this happen, including our 15+ dedicated team members in India.

Real estate and advanced tax planning are core niches at WCG, so we built a team specifically for them rather than leaving it to generalists.

The RETS Pod works behind the scenes to support our primary tax Pods on the technical heavy lifting: initial asset setups, cost segregation studies (including fun 3115/481(a) adjustments), the short-term rental loophole, and Real Estate Professional Status (REPS) analysis.

We use a structured three-session process (Foundation, Exploration, and Execution) to map a client's full tax exposure and build an actionable strategy. We replace promoter math with real math, stress-testing every advanced strategy against what we call the 3-Legged Stool: a client's actual cash, effort, and risk tolerance.

2025 tax returns due in 2026 was our first time with the RETS Pod (fka, the rental expert pod). We had some bumps and bruises, and we have a lot of growing yet to do. Our ideal world is for all rental activities and related niche investments to be handled by the RETS Pod, leaving the remaining pieces of the tax return to be completed by other WCG tax accountants. Two exceptions: a real estate holding company that files a partnership return, and a super simple 1040 where the rental and investment activities are the main event. Those get handled tip to tail by the RETS Pod.

If real estate tax strategy is your thing, this is where WCG is investing. We currently have 5 team members in this pod and are aiming for 9-10 by the end of 2026 to support our fastest-growing client segment as we continue the evolution from the original Rental Expert Pod to the 2.0, or the RETS Pod.

WCG is actively building an AI Tax Prep Pod for the 2027 tax season, focused on AI-assisted preparation of individual (1040) returns. The thesis is straightforward: AI tools have evolved into something good enough and fast enough that a small dedicated team using them well can produce high quality and high throughput. The procedures, playbook, and standards do not exist anywhere yet. We are building them from scratch.

The Pod will operate similar to the RETS Pod: a specialized team with its own workflow, its own quality standards, and a direct line into the broader Tax Team. Tax returns prepared by the Pod will be reviewed by experienced reviewers using our standard quality controls. AI does not replace the review function. It changes the preparation function.

We are hiring the Pod Lead now. Podmates will be added as the role and the tooling mature. If you want to be part of building something genuinely new in this profession, this is the time.

At WCG, Accounting Services means Bookkeeping + Analysis, not just reconciliations. There's a meaningful difference, and our clients feel it in their financial reporting, real-time tax planning, and day-to-day decision-making.

Our 11-person team (including a small group in India) each works with 25-30 clients using QuickBooks Online, Xero, and REIHub exclusively. No desktop, no Freshbooks, no whatever whatever. We also use Reach Reporting to give business owners a visual, trend-based view of their financials. Because a graph tells a story that a spreadsheet sometimes can't.

On cadence, we intentionally skip quarterly. Monthly, bi-monthly, and quad-monthly schedules let us smooth the workflow across the year so our team isn't buried in crazy Aprils, Julys, and Octobers. It's a small structural decision that makes a big difference for both the team and the client.

New for 2026, we also run a lighter, AI-assisted tier for the engagement that does not need full Bookkeeping + Analysis but still needs clean, tax-return-ready numbers. Think of it as bookkeeping-lite: AI-driven categorization and bank reconciliation that get the books accurate enough to prepare a solid tax return, without the periodic reporting, analysis, and consultation of the full-service tier. It runs on its own separate platform, not in QuickBooks Online or Xero, and it is built for the straightforward client who mostly needs good data at tax time rather than ongoing financial statements.

Accounting Services also handles sales and use tax filings and personal property tax. Clean, focused, genuinely valuable work.

WCG has processed payroll for over 800 small businesses for years. We're proud of that. But in summer 2026, we're making a deliberate shift, transitioning all payroll clients to ADP or Paychex for client-direct processing.

This isn't a retreat, it's a reset with intention. Payroll processing, done right, demands its own infrastructure, attention, and resources. By stepping back from it, we're doubling down on what we do best: high-level advisory, tax strategy, and the consultative work that actually moves the needle for our clients.

WCG is getting sharper on purpose. Read our Reset With Intention webpage for more information on our 2026 initiatives.

Our 6-person Biz Dev team is the engine behind WCG's growth, specifically our advisory segment as opposed to tax-only engagements (we call those TOEs). They draft proposals, re-paper existing engagements, handle corporate governance matters like entity formations and S Corp elections, and own the onboarding process from first inquiry to fully engaged client.

The Biz Dev team works hand-in-hand with our Client Acquisition Team (the CAT) to make sure every prospect gets a thoughtful, human experience as they transition into a WCG engagement.

This isn't a sales team. Prospects come to us primarily through our website, content, and referrals. We average 6-7 inquiries per day, and 2 out of 3 are from high income earners who want tax reduction strategies through short-term rentals and other niche assets.

The Biz Dev team's job is to listen well, match the right engagement to the right client, and make WCG easy to say yes to.

In addition to over 60 remote team members, our physical footprint includes:

  • Headquarters: 2393 Flying Horse Club Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80921
  • South Dakota: 300 North Main Street, Mitchell, SD 57301
  • Wyoming: 920 E Sheridan Street Suite B, Laramie, WY 82072
  • India: Awfis World Centre, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad, Gujarat

Tax Support Intro

Tax Support keeps the Tax Team running. Every tax return that WCG prepares passes through Tax Support at least twice, once on the way in and once on the way out. That means Tax Support is the first team to touch a client’s documents and often the last team to see them before delivery. The volume is real, the pace is real, and the work matters.

Sidebar: We are launching AI Tax Prep in November 2026, and approximately 1,000 out of 7,100 tax returns are slated to bypass front-end Tax Support in a traditional sense. However, there are still several tax support needs even in the AI environment such as obtaining engagement letters, launching clients, pre-tax prep communications, among other things.

The Tax Support role has two specialty tracks: Information Data Processing (IDP) and Binder Builder (BB). Both are covered below, and most Tax Support Associates work in one or the other depending on where they slot in best.

A few things worth saying directly:

  • Tax Support is a real career track, not a placeholder. Some Tax Support Associates stay in support for years and grow into Supervisor and Manager roles within Tax Support. Others use the role as a stepping stone into tax return preparation on the Tax Prep Team. It is common for college interns or recent graduates to follow the tax support then tax prep trajectory.
  • Flexibility is built in. We hire seasonal and full-time permanent Tax Support Associates. The seasonal option is genuinely useful for people who want to augment household income during tax season without a year-round commitment.
  • Fragmented workdays are common. Some Tax Support Associates work atypical hours (early morning, late night) or split their day around domestic demands like kids and school. WCG builds the role around getting the work done, not around when you sit at your desk.

Is This You?

This role is a strong fit if you are…

  • Detail-oriented and organized. Tax Support is high volume and high precision. Documents get named, categorized, and routed. Extensions get filed. E-signatures go out. If detail matters to you naturally, this work fits.
  • A good communicator with clients. Both specialties involve client contact (phone and email in the U.S., email only in India). You do not need to be a tax expert, but you need to be pleasant, clear, and responsive.
  • Comfortable with technology and repetition. Paperless workflow, SurePrep, Canopy, UltraTax, and cloud-based everything. The work is repetitive by design, which suits some people and does not suit others.
  • Interested in tax return preparation over time. This one applies especially to Binder Builders. If your longer-term interest is in learning tax return preparation, this role gives you the foundation.

A quick reality check…

The volume is significant. IDP Associates process 1,500 to 2,000 client uploads per day during tax season. Binder Builders manage a full pipeline of tax binders across multiple clients simultaneously. If steady, high-volume work is a mismatch for you, this role will feel like a treadmill.

Sidebar: We will be automating portions of this starting in the summer of 2027.

Tax Support work is seasonal in intensity, with tax season and extension season as the peaks. For seasonal Associates, the engagement ends in mid-April unless you convert to a full-time permanent role or move onto the Tax Prep Team as a Tax Accountant. Full-time permanent Associates continue with ongoing support work year-round, with lighter workloads between the seasonal peaks.

The role is not client-facing in the same way a tax accountant’s role is. Tax Support Associates communicate with clients, but the conversations are more logistical than advisory. If your interest is in strategic client conversations, Tax Support is a foundation, not a destination.

Tax Support Basics

Applicants Must

  • Have a pleasant demeanor with clients and fellow Associates, and excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Be proficient with a paperless environment and workflow management concepts.
  • Communicate clearly with clients in writing and, in the U.S., on the phone.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a tax or accounting firm environment, even in a support or administrative capacity.
  • Familiarity with SurePrep, Canopy, UltraTax, or comparable tax preparation platforms.
  • Genuine interest in learning tax return preparation over time, especially for Binder Builder candidates.

Compensation

$25 to $30 per hour for U.S. seasonal Tax Support Associates. Salary of $64,000 to $76,000 for U.S. full-time permanent Tax Support Associates. India compensation is covered in the India Team section below.

Bonuses, if offered, are considered in addition to total compensation and are subjectively determined based on qualitative intangibles.

Reporting Manager

Presently Director of Support Teams

Tax Support Role Responsibilities

You will work with and support all other Tax Team Associates, plus WCG’s client base. Your duties include WCG’s general firm responsibilities plus, or as modified by, the following:

Role-Specific Duties

  • Answering client phone calls and emails (U.S.), or client emails only (India).
  • Monitoring, screening, responding to, and distributing incoming communications.
  • Filing and organizing electronic documents.
  • Connecting with clients to gather essential information (and motivate them to submit their information in a timely manner).
  • Preparing and filing tax return extensions.
  • Performing office chores such as emptying the dishwasher, emptying trash cans, and keeping the kitchen and social lounge clean (U.S. in-office Associates; we have a weekly janitorial service too).
  • Helping keep the workflow moving.
  • Other tasks as requested by other Tax Support and Tax Team Associates.

General Firm Duties

  • Guiding WCG along the path of success.
  • Promoting WCG culture and encouraging excellence and high team morale.
  • Developing and implementing WCG goals, procedures, and policies in coordination with other Partners, Directors, Managers, and Associates.
  • Identifying improvement gaps and assisting with deploying corrective measures.
  • Providing feedback, concerns, and recommendations to WCG leadership to continuously evolve Tax Support.
  • Assisting with development of internal policies relating to Tax Support.
  • Coordinating client-centric efforts with other teams.
  • Other tasks related to Tax Support and the broader Tax Team.

Tax Support role responsibilities and duties will change from time to time depending on circumstances, your skillsets and requests, and other factors. They are reviewed, modified if necessary, and agreed to during Associate Reviews.

WCG Support Team Specialties

The IDP team is a specialty subteam of Tax Support built around a specific idea: process high volumes of incoming client data and finalize outgoing tax return deliverables so the Tax Prep Team can focus on preparing tax returns rather than moving documents.

IDP Associates have two primary functions:

  1. Client upload processing. Process client uploads by analyzing the information, renaming and organizing as necessary, notifying the client, and alerting other teams that new data has arrived. It is common to process 1,500 to 2,000 client uploads for online form submissions daily. Yes, daily. Given the repetitive nature of the work, some Associates find it better to work remotely and at atypical hours (are you an early bird or a midnight oiler?). Many IDP Associates have a fragmented workday to balance domestic demands (kids, school, house chores) with team duties.
  2. E-signature and invoice processing. Send e-signature requests to clients for tax return authorization, process paid invoices, and finalize the workflow that gets a tax return filed. This is the back-end counterpart to client upload processing on the front end.

Cross-specialty flex. During peak periods, IDP Associates may cross into Pod Assistant work and vice versa. The Support specialties are designed to flex.

The taxonomy is being refined. WCG intends to automate large portions of IDP work over time using our own AI agentic tool called Kairos. The judgment calls IDP Associates make on ambiguous uploads become training data for what comes next. That makes the role more valuable, not less.

Structure. IDP is a year-round function since client uploads and e-signature workflows run continuously across the calendar, though the intensity peaks alongside tax season and extension season. IDP hires full-time permanent Associates and can add seasonal capacity when volume warrants it.

India expansion on the horizon. IDP is likely to open in Ahmedabad in 2027 as the Pod Assistant specialty matures and the time zone advantages of India-based Tax Support work become clearer.

Career direction. The natural next step for an IDP Associate is the Binder Builder specialty, which offers a path toward Tax Accountant on the Tax Prep Team. IDP Associates who develop tax fluency and process instincts on the job are strong candidates for that transition.

The Binder Builder team is a specialty subteam of Tax Support built around a specific idea: gather everything a Tax Accountant needs to prepare a tax return, in one place, in a consistent format, so the Tax Prep Team can focus on preparing the return rather than hunting for missing pieces.

Binder Builders have three primary functions:

  1. Client information gathering. Connect with clients to obtain critical information for tax return preparation, and download accounting and payroll data directly from online sources (QuickBooks, Xero, ADP, Paychex, and similar platforms). Binder Builders are often the first WCGer a client communicates with each tax season, so client-facing communication skills matter here.
  2. Binder assembly. Assemble client data, tax documents, and related information into electronic tax binders using SurePrep Binder. Create tax return records in our tax software, verify 1040SCAN data from SurePrep, and upload it into the tax return. This is the technical heart of the role and where Binder Builders learn the mechanics of how a tax return comes together.
  3. Final-stage tax return support. Assist Client Support and other Tax Support Associates in sending e-signature requests, processing paid invoices, and communicating with clients during the final stages of tax return filing.

Cross-specialty flex. During peak periods, Binder Builders may cross into IDP or Pod Assistant work and vice versa. The Support specialties are designed to flex.

Tax fluency builds naturally here. Binder Builders learn a lot about various tax forms and the mechanics of tax return preparation simply by doing the work. This makes Binder Builder the most common stepping stone into a Tax Accountant role at WCG, and it is why we treat the specialty as a genuine on-ramp rather than a support-only seat.

Structure. Binder Builder is a year-round function since tax return preparation happens across the calendar (extension season, off-cycle engagements, ongoing work), though the intensity peaks alongside tax season and extension season. Binder Builder hires both full-time permanent and seasonal Associates. As with all Tax Support seasonal engagements, the seasonal role ends in mid-April unless you convert to a full-time permanent Tax Support role or transition into a Tax Accountant role on the Tax Prep Team.

Available in both U.S. and India. Binder Builder is the specialty with the deepest India footprint. Ahmedabad Binder Builders work the same SurePrep environment, the same UltraTax hosted platform, and the same WCG procedures as their U.S. counterparts.

Career direction. The natural next step for a Binder Builder is Tax Accountant on the Tax Prep Team. Binder Builders typically spend about a year in the seat before transitioning, and many current Tax Accountants at WCG started here. Building binders is a wonderful way to start a tax return preparation career.

The Pod Assistant team is a specialty subteam of Tax Support built around a specific idea: remove routine work from Pod Leaders and Tax Accountants so they can spend their time on tax work, not inbox management and administrative follow-up.

Pod Assistants have four primary functions:

  1. Inbox triage. Read incoming client email across two assigned Pod inboxes, categorize each message by type, and route it to the responsible Podmate. Flag messages requiring Pod Leader attention with a short note on why. Escalate rather than guess. A misrouted message is worse than a flagged one. This is a reading and judgment role, not a volume role. Clients write informally, bury the actual question in paragraph three, and often ask two unrelated things in one email. Catching both is the job. English reading comprehension matters more here than in any other Tax Support specialty.
  2. Light-duty client execution. Handle common client requests that do not require tax preparer or Pod Leader involvement, including ShareFile password resets, adding email addresses to ShareFile, address updates and tax return reprints, secure delivery of tax returns to lenders after client consent, e-signature resends, invoice and billing questions, calls to clients for simple data (date of birth, quick clarifications), paper filing instructions and signer signature insertion, proofs of filing (9325), scheduling and rescheduling appointments including tax return review appointments two weeks before filing deadlines, mailing notices, and handling client "where is my return" status inquiries.
  3. Pod workflow support. Serve as an active participant in the Pod's workflow management, help identify stale tasks, and work with Operations on the "greenlist" (also called "the elephant"), which is the internal task list generated near a filing deadline showing clients who have not sent us their data and giving Pod Leaders visibility into review volume landing on their desks. Pod Assistants also serve as backup capacity for IDP when needed.
  4. Executive Assistant coordination. Each Partner at WCG has an Executive Assistant, and most Partners are also Pod Leaders. Pod Assistants coordinate closely with the Partner's EA on scheduling, client outreach, and workflow items that overlap between the Pod's client work and the Partner's broader firm responsibilities. This liaison work is a regular part of the role, not an occasional one.

The taxonomy does not exist yet. Pod Assistants are also building the categories, rules, and edge cases that WCG uses to classify Pod email traffic. This matters because WCG intends to automate large portions of this work over time using Claude Cowork and other AI tools, and the automation needs a taxonomy and consistent examples to learn from. Whoever holds this seat builds both. That makes the role more valuable, not less.

Seasonality and structure. The Pod Assistant specialty is both seasonal and permanent, and runs alongside tax season and extension season. WCG is currently hiring 8 Pod Assistants: our hope and intent is to transition many to a full-time permanent role with the team. As with all Tax Support seasonal engagements, the seasonal role ends in mid-April unless you convert to a full-time permanent Tax Support role or transition into a Binder Builder role on the Tax Prep Team.

Time zone advantage. The Pod Assistant specialty is currently India only. Core hours of 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM IST put the triage handoff right before the U.S. workday begins. The Pod wakes up to a sorted inbox instead of a pile.

Career direction. The natural next step for a Pod Assistant is the Binder Builder specialty, which offers a path toward Tax Accountant on the Tax Prep Team. Pod Assistants who develop tax fluency and process instincts on the job are strong candidates for that transition.

India Team Differences

The Tax Support Binder Builder specialty only exists onsite in Ahmedabad for our seasonal team members (those select for permanent status may work a hybrid schedule). The work is the same U.S. tax return binder assembly, SurePrep processing, UltraTax setup, and client information gathering described throughout this page. What changes for the Ahmedabad office:

  • Onsite at our Ahmedabad office on Ashram Road (see Locations above for the exact address).
  • WCG India hires Binder Builders in two configurations, both onsite in Ahmedabad:

Seasonal Binder Builder

Budgeted total compensation of INR 7.0 to 10.0 LPA (Lakhs per annum, CTC) for the tax season engagement, which runs approximately mid-December through mid-April. This is roughly INR 6.39 to 9.33 LPA takehome before any income taxes. Performance bonuses, where applicable, of 15 to 20% on top of base compensation, tied to qualitative intangibles alongside production targets. Bonuses are not guaranteed. The seasonal engagement ends in mid-April unless you convert to a full-time permanent Tax Support role or transition into a Tax Accountant role on the WCG India Tax Prep Team.

Full-Time Permanent Binder Builder

Budgeted total compensation of INR 12.0 to 13.8 LPA (CTC), with a takehome estimate of roughly INR 11.3 to 13.0 LPA before any income taxes. Performance bonuses of 15 to 20% on top of base compensation, where applicable and not guaranteed. Full-time permanent Binder Builders continue Tax Support work year-round, with lighter workloads between the seasonal peaks.

Seasonal Binder Builder With Tax Prep Trajectory

For candidates with the right education background (Bachelor’s degree in accounting or commerce) and demonstrated interest in U.S. tax return preparation, we structure the seasonal offer at the full-time permanent Binder Builder compensation level even though the engagement itself is seasonal. This reflects our investment in you as a genuine candidate for the Tax Accountant role that follows. The Binder Builder seasonal engagement is your working audition for the Tax Accountant role, and the compensation reflects that.

Tax Support Supervisor, the Binder Boss

As of July 17, 2026, WCG is actively recruiting for a full-time permanent Tax Support Supervisor for the Ahmedabad office, informally known as the Binder Boss. This role is available starting May 2027 and is a natural next step for a Binder Builder who wants to remain in Tax Support long-term and does not have immediate ambitions to transition into tax return preparation. Budgeted total compensation for the Binder Boss role is INR 14.5 to 16.7 LPA (CTC), with a takehome estimate of INR 13.7 to 15.9 LPA before any income taxes. Performance bonuses of 15 to 20% on top of base compensation, where applicable and not guaranteed.

Pod Assistant

The Pod Assistant specialty is currently India only. WCG is hiring 8 in Ahmedabad, split evenly between full-time permanent and seasonal.

Seasonal Pod Assistants earn INR 7.0 to 10.0 LPA (CTC) for the mid-December through mid-April engagement. Full-time permanent Pod Assistants earn at the Full-Time Permanent Binder Builder range, reflecting year-round Pod inbox and workflow support. Performance bonuses of 15 to 20% apply to both, where applicable and not guaranteed. Seasonal engagements end in mid-April unless you convert to full-time permanent or transition into a Binder Builder role.

The natural next step is Binder Builder, which offers a path toward Tax Accountant on the Tax Prep Team.

Requirements Across All India Tax Support

  • High English proficiency required, verbal and written, since you work with U.S. Tax Prep, Tax Support, and Client Support Podmates every day. Client communication from India is email only; phones stay with U.S. Client Support.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or commerce (especially for candidates targeting the Tax Accountant path).
  • Familiarity with tax preparation platforms is a plus but not required. WCG will train you on SurePrep, UltraTax, Canopy, and our internal procedures.
  • Core hours of 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM IST. Saturdays are working days between January 15 and March 31 during peak season.
  • Most Tuesdays have Pod and certain team meetings from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM IST which can be remotely attended (for example, from home).
  • All full-time permanent roles at WCG, including India team members, may opt into a hybrid schedule (and are eligible for fully remote after review). A personal investment into extended home workstation equipment beyond company-issued laptop is required (high speed internet, private space, 3 monitors).

IMPORTANT! All India Tax Support Associates must be in-office. No remote roles are available.

As of June 30, 2026, WCG India Global Services Pvt Ltd is in the process of working with our EOR to provide health insurance.

One WCG Team

India Binder Builders work the same SurePrep environment, the same UltraTax hosted platform, and the same WCG procedures as their U.S. counterparts. Same systems, same standards, same client work. This is not a back office. It is one WCG team spanning two countries.

Hours Requirements

All salaried positions must work 1,900 hours annually / 12-month trailing period. This is hands-on-keyboard, butts-in-seats (unless you have a standing desk) work-related time spent on WCG activities. This is not billable hours- as a reminder, WCG does not do time-based client billing or have "charge hours" in favor of retainer / fee-range engagements.

Holidays, office closures, PTO, and other paid time off do not count toward and are not deducted from the 1,900-hour requirement, because your time off is genuinely yours.

WCG does not set a weekly minimum number of hours. That said, each team has different busy seasons and hours-

  • Client Support. Works a schedule close to the tax team cadence below, just a bit lighter, and covers a handful of Fridays through non-tax season since the firm stays open to clients. It is a custom setup, so we will walk you through the specifics.
  • Accounting Services. Works the same hours as the Tax Prep team below, but the busy season starts about 6 weeks earlier and also ends sooner.
  • Operations and Strategy. Those in operations and strategy roles typically follow the tax team cadence.
  • Tax Prep. For tax team members, our experience historically is that 55-60 hours per week during tax season (roughly 10 weeks) and 50-55 hours per week during extension season (roughly 8 weeks) are needed to find success, with lighter hours the rest of the year (for example, 30-32 hours per week during summer).
  • Other Support. Certain roles, such as Human Resources, Business Development and others, follow a typical 40-hour work week across all weeks.

As a firm, most Associates are off on Fridays outside of tax season except for those mentioned above. If you are confused, that is OK. WCG tries to be flexible and as such, it is a challenge to convert flexibility and fluidity into a bullet list. We can review with you directly to clear up the madness. Please refer to the WCG Associate Handbook for additional information.

UPDATE! You might see reference to 2,100 hours elsewhere. As of June 8, 2026, we are moving to the 1,900 hour version above to simplify and remove confusion.

Tax Support Team Career Path

The career path for Tax Support runs from Associate to Supervisor and Manager within Tax Support. Binder Builders also have an established path into Tax Accountant, Supervisor, and Manager roles on the Tax Prep Team. Many current Tax Accountants at WCG started as Binder Builders.

For India Binder Builders specifically, the transition from seasonal to full-time permanent Tax Accountant is the primary career trajectory, and it happens quickly for the right candidates. See the India Tax Support section above.

Tax Support Associates can also transition into other areas of the firm over time. WCG does not limit anyone who wants to grow and develop.

  • Accounting Services Team. You will meet with Karlee Tiesler, Director of Accounting Services, for U.S. and Surbhi Setia, WCG India Team Director for our India candidates.
  • Tax Support / Client Support. You will meet with Tonya Duval, Director of Support Teams for U.S. and Surbhi Setia, WCG India Team Director for our India candidates.
  • Tax Return Preparation Team. You will meet with Jason Watson, CEO and Partner, for U.S. and Simar Singh Bagga, WCG India Team Manager for our India candidates.
  • Operations, Strategy, Others. You will meet with Terra Plamp, Firm Strategist or Jason Watson, CEO and Partner, for U.S. and Simar Singh Bagga, WCG India Team Manager for our India candidates.

We intentionally have a WCG leader host the first conversation since we can quickly assess alignment and basis for moving forward. If it's not a heck yeah, then it's a no thanks, right? Let's find that out sooner rather than later.

It is slated for 75 minutes to give you plenty of time to get your questions answered and gain familiarity, though it often runs shorter. This is purely to get a feel for each other. We can teach you anything… short of being nice, being professional, being energetic, being someone we can work with. Taxes? Easy. Accounting? Got you. Ability to hold a meaningful conversation? Well…

Fit Alignment

After that initial meeting, and if we believe there is a basis to work together, we ask you to complete our Fit Alignment Assessment. It takes about 30 minutes and helps us understand where you would slot in. Most WCGers have taken it, so we have a good baseline. We are cautious with how we read it- it is not pass or fail, and it usually just underscores what we already gleaned from your questionnaire and our chat.

Final Rounds

Not all roles need additional interviews. If necessary, we introduce you to other members of our recruitment team depending on the role and location. For example, a U.S. bookkeeper might chat with Michelle Ihlefeldt where an India bookkeeper might chat with Sumit Sirwani. After you chat with at least two of them, we get together and talk behind your back.

Offer Letter

Finally, one of the big shots checks in to see if you have any additional questions, and to start formulating a role with the team, compensation, start dates, etc. Then an offer letter is presented. Yay!

Radio Silence

Once an offer is accepted, then there might be a lot of radio silence depending on start date. As things get closer, we order a background check. For remote positions, we also do a tech survey to see what you need, and we start to discuss travel plans.

It’s The Final Countdown

In true one hit wonder Europe fashion, about 30 days before your start date, training materials and a schedule are presented and it's the final countdown.

And away we go!
