What pilot or flight attendant expenses can I deduct?

By Jason Watson

There are several expenses that are associated with your flight crew position that you are allowed to deduct. Please visit the Flight Crew homepage of our website, and click on the Flight Crew Expense Report. This is a comprehensive list of the expenses you may deduct.

The IRS uses two rules for determining if an expense is deductible- in general, you may deduct ordinary and necessary expenses for conducting a trade such as being a pilot or flight attendant. An ordinary expense is an expense that is common and accepted in your trade. A necessary expense is one that is appropriate for your position.
