reset with intention

Key Takeaways

  • WCG Is Resetting Its Model to Focus on Strategic Tax Advisory. WCG is intentionally shifting resources away from administrative work like payroll processing so the team can spend more time on proactive tax planning, compensation strategy, and decisions that help clients build and preserve wealth.
  • Payroll Processing Is Moving to a Direct-Access ADP Model. Clients will approve and run their payroll directly through ADP while ADP handles the compliance engine, allowing payroll to remain simple and reliable without relying on WCG for routine processing.
  • WCG Continues to Own the Payroll Strategy. While clients will execute payroll through ADP, WCG will still design and guide the payroll plan- optimizing reasonable salary, managing withholdings, and ensuring payroll decisions align with the broader tax strategy.

As our clients’ needs have become more sophisticated, we recognize that the highest and best use of your tax advisor is helping you build and preserve wealth while deploying tax saving strategies, not acting as an administrative middleman. We call our evolution to meet this need a “Reset with Intention.” By shifting our resources away from routine processing and transitioning to a highly impactful Tax Advisory model, we are expanding the bandwidth to focus on the proactive strategies that actually move your tax needle.

We understand many clients expect a CPA firm to “handle payroll.” Frankly, that is your father’s CPA. As a result, we are shifting payroll processing to you + ADP so your WCG team can spend time on what matters most:

  • advanced tax strategies that reduce taxable income
  • reasonable salary and compensation planning
  • proactive year-round planning
  • helping you make decisions that improve long-term outcomes

Payroll compliance needs to be done correctly. But ongoing payroll processing is rarely where the financial impact comes from. Our goal is to focus our expertise on high-impact planning while giving you a payroll system that stays simple and reliable.

1. Doubling Down on the Rhythm of the Relationship

You already know that WCG operates on a year-round, not year-end, model. The primary deliverable of our advisory services has always been comfort- knowing compliance is handled, surprises are minimized, and no tax deduction is left behind. We are changing our advisory services to be completely customized focused on scheduled touchpoints, with the baseline being-

Compliance & Preparation

  • Tax Intake: While not required, a pre-prep meeting with your tax team
  • Tax Returns: Tax return preparation, including rental activities and other investments as discussed
  • Tax Return Review: Comprehensive review meeting with your tax team

Strategic Planning & Support

  • Tax Strategy: One dedicated tax advisory session focused on tax reduction and efficiency
  • Tax Planning: One pre-planning meeting and one tax projection review meeting
  • Tax Projections: One annual household tax projection
  • Routine Support: Three scheduled quick chats (May through November) for ad-hoc tax matters
  • End of Year Planning: End of year tax planning meeting discuss last minute moves and next year’s outlook
  • Tax Resolution, Audit Defense: Rare, but we will assist should the IRS or state have a question (our included role is limited)

From there, most of our business owners will have-

  • More Strategy. An additional tax strategy session for a total of two.
  • Additional Projection. A tax projection for the business for state level taxes including pass-through entity tax calculations (if applicable).
  • Payroll Planning. A payroll plan to optimize salary, proactively manage withholdings for tax neutrality and provide flexibility.

By stepping out of the administrative weeds of processing payroll, we are doubling down on what we do best. This evolution ensures we have the dedicated capacity to maintain and elevate the structured communication that prevents emergencies before they happen.

2. Stress-Testing Advanced Tax Strategies

As your wealth grows, reducing your taxes requires moving past standard deductions and exploring impactful strategies such as structured equipment leasing, short-term rental loopholes including specialized asset depreciation (gas stations, car washes, mobile home parks), working interest in an oil or gas well, among other things.

These strategies require money, effort, and risk, and these requirements demand discussions. At WCG, we don’t sell aggressive tax strategies; we stress-test them. There is a lot of noise in the “tax reduction” marketplace, filled with glossy slide decks and promoter hype. Our job is to be professionally detached- acting as your analytical filter to separate defensible planning from abusive tax shelters. We model the outcomes, flag the risks (like Excess Business Loss limits and material participation hurdles), and ensure your tax planning holds up in sunlight.

Building wealth is the mantra- doing it while mitigating risk and reducing tax footprints.

3. What This Means for Your Payroll Processing

To ensure capacity for this level of deep-dive advisory, we are shifting the mechanics of recurring payroll. Starting in the summer of 2026, we are moving to a Payroll Planning and Direct-Access Processing approach.

Payroll isn’t just clicking the red payroll button; it’s tax planning in disguise. WCG will continue to deliver your customized Payroll Plan. We handle the architecture: finding your “Goldilocks” salary, managing household withholdings so you don’t get surprised in April, and building strategies for lumpy or seasonal income.

Sidebar: Why is the plan so important? Because a bad salary calculation can cost you thousands in either overpaid self-employment taxes or underpayment penalties. We still drive the strategy; you just approve the execution.

WCG will transition you and your business to a direct-access model through the ADP retail platform. ADP continues to run the compliance engine, but you gain the ability to simply review and approve your payroll processing directly. This provides you with instant agility to pause payroll, adjust pay, or trigger off-cycle bonuses without waiting on a third party.

Said Differently

You approve payroll. ADP runs the compliance engine. WCG focuses on strategy. Once configured correctly, payroll typically looks like this:

  • confirm salary / enter hours
  • review the payroll preview
  • approve payroll
  • done

Next, ADP handles the compliance and processing engine:

  • payroll tax calculations
  • payroll tax deposits
  • direct deposit into personal checking accounts
  • quarterly and year-end filings (W-2s, W-3s, state equivalents)
  • agency confirmations
  • reporting and audit trail

You stay in control without needing to become a payroll specialist.

4. Our Commitment to a Seamless Handoff

WCG and ADP have integrated our efforts to provide a “white glove” handoff. We aren’t just tossing you the keys and walking away:

  • Packaged Delivery. WCG will bundle all the necessary documents on your behalf for ADP to transition your existing setup. You do nothing except electronically sign some forms.
  • Run and Done Assistance. An ADP specialist and your WCG advisor will be connected with you for your first run to ensure your setup is perfect and fully automated.
  • Direct Support. You will have direct access to ADP’s technical support for immediate software questions, while WCG remains your strategic “safety net” for payroll advocacy.
  • The 60-Day Review. We will hold a scheduled check-in 60 to 90 days later to ensure your payrolls are smooth and the system is working exactly as intended.

5. Owners Like Processing Their Payroll Directly

Owners often prefer DIY payroll once they see what it actually involves.

  • Cash flow control: pause payroll, run minimum payroll, or trigger a bonus when you choose. Going on family leave? Gap in income? Between contracts?
  • Speed: add employees, adjust pay, and run payroll when needed without waiting on your tax advisor or payroll specialist.
  • Always-on access: payroll history, reports, W-2s, and filings are available anytime, and employees can often access their own paystubs and tax forms through ADP’s app (less back-and-forth for you).
  • Reduced dependency risk: payroll doesn’t stall because someone else is unavailable or backlogged.
  • Low admin burden: mobile tools, employee self-service, and recurring payroll options mean payroll usually takes only a few minutes per run.
  • Scales with you: ADP can integrate with time tracking and accounting tools as your business grows (package-dependent).
