The IRS has this handy tool to ensure your amended tax return was filed properly and the approximate date of refund deposit. Here’s some information to help manage your expectations- most amended tax returns take 10-12 weeks to process. Because of tax fraud in the past, any large refunds or unusual refunds might be flagged, and increase processing time to 3-4 months. Yes, Months.
ExPat or ex-patriate amended tax returns can easily be 6-8 months. Yikes.

Be prepared for the “It’s in the system, but we can’t give you a date” response. Very frustrating! Also, each state has a different tracking system. The following links are from our Track Your Refund page, but they will get you close to the information you need.
